The Cockayne Farmstead opens its 2026 Farmer’s Market season on Wednesday, June 3rd from 3 to 6 pm. Extra crafts for the kids and information for adults will be on hand on Opening Day in addition to farm produce, hand-made items, and more that will be for sale each Wednesday afternoon throughout the season.
Special activities for opening day include making colorful pinwheels with help from volunteers. Monarch butterflies and milkweed will be the subject of another activity which will include making a monarch butterfly model and milkweed seeds to take home. Artist Cheryl Childers will lead a third activity consisting of painting rocks. Incidentally, the Farmstead is located in an area known as “Gravel Bottom”, and its rocky soil is one reason why there are raised beds in its Victory Garden. In addition, Elizabeth Harper will bring a display of edible wild plants and answer questions anyone interested in “eating their weedies” might have. There will also be a sale of donated vegetable and flower plants to benefit the Farmstead.
Throughout the season, the Farmer’s Market will offer produce, meat, eggs, baked goods, herbs, plants, wild flower bouquets, soap, local history books, a craft for the kids, and more, depending on availability. New this year is a Market Table with items being sold from a wide variety of vendors who cannot attend in person. To take advantage of this service, please call (304) 845-1411 or e-mail cockaynehouse@gmail.com. Vendors who are interested in joining the market can also find a registration form here.
