Jonathan Lockwood was from Moundsville, WV and entered the military at age 53, becoming the Lt. Col. of the Seventh WV. The regiment participated in most of the major battles of the Civil War in the north and east. Lockwood was wounded three times in action and always returned to serve with his unit or in some cases became the highest ranking officer. His death was a major loss in Moundsville and the town closed for his funeral procession down Jefferson Avenue. He was honored as a local hero in the town and was very well known due to his business accomplishments. Gary Rider presents the story of this famous Moundsville personality who lent his name to Lockwood Avenue.
