We’re bringing back this beloved community event with lots of fall fun and more chances to take home a prize!
Scarecrow Lane is a community scarecrow competition that schools, clubs, businesses or individuals may enter. Design a scarecrow that’s funny, unique, scary or silly, it’s all up to you! The scarecrows will take up residence at Cockayne from October 12 to 31, 2026. Entry fee is $10 per scarecrow.
Prizes will be awarded in three categories, chosen by our selected judges. The categories and prizes will be as follows:
Funniest Scarecrow - $100
Scariest Scarecrow - $100
Most Creative Scarecrow - $100
A fourth prize of $100 will be awarded in a People’s Choice category. Throughout the event, visitors will have the chance to vote for their favorite scarecrows with a donation to the Farmstead of $1 per vote. The scarecrow to bring in the biggest donation will be the People’s Choice winner! Donations can be made online at any time by scanning the QR code posted onsite with the scarecrows or by clicking here. Cash donations can also be made in the Visitor Center during our regular open hours.
While the scarecrows are up, we’ll be hosting a Family Fun Night on October 22 from 5-7pm, which will include games, crafts, s’mores, and a Kids Pumpkin Decorating Contest. Children ages 4-6, 7-9, and 10-13 can bring a decorated pumpkin that night to be entered into the contest for a chance to win a Dairy Queen gift card!
